- Smart IoT Parking Solutions (Towards a Smart-based Society)SMARTSOC – Entrepreneurial Case proposal Education of Future ICT Experts Based on SMART Society Needs 2019-1-SK01-KA203-060789
DESCRIPTION OF THE ENTREPRENEURIAL CASE
Digital economy -> Emerging business in digital services
Central Finland aims to produce business models and innovations to create functional digital services. As digitalisation challenges conventional services and ways of working, further development is required. Actors in Central Finland focus on development of programmes and e-services to obtain high level of public services online. Emerging topics for Central Finland’s future business include big data, robotics, intelligence networks, and artificial intelligence. In Central Finland, we see that these technologies have potential especially in the field of health services.
This case encourages the participants to research and explore the best mix of technical and entrepreneurial innovation that could lead to feasible and sustainable Smart IoT Parking and IPR (e.g., patents). Some of the main goals of such solutions are:
- low cost/impact of development and deployment
- ease of deployment
- high ROI for implementing organizations, particular for public ones (e.g., municipalities)
- measurable metrics (e.g., space usage, car emissions, time-to-park)
- measurable positive impact on a variety of stakeholders (e.g., residents, municipalities,
- parking-management organizations)
- startup and investment opportunities
This case strongly links to several main points of the Smart Specialization Strategy of the region. First, it strongly underpins region’s Digital Economy focus and specialization by using a variety of ICT and IoT technologies and knowledge. Second, it is being supported by the Knowledge-based Economy of the region where our expertise is based on years of methodological research, and ICT/IoT domain knowledge. Finally, it supports the region’s Bioeconomy - indirectly by minimising the car emissions, and eventually by proposing solutions to stronger link smart parking to bioeconomy via more innovation.
Assignment Option1:
perform (as complete as possible) global competitor analysis for Smart/IoT Parking Solutions
in particular analyse / breakdown:
- business model components of main competitors
- pricing components / strategy of main competitors
- technological components of main competitors
- completeness of each competitors’ solution (sensor-to-cloud vs. only sensor vs. only analytics engine)
Assignment Option2:
technologically implement a quasi end-to-end solution/prototype/proof-of-concept at least: data backend, frontend/dashboard, smartphone app - preferably using open-source technologies and components
propose possible solutions for sensing the data with pros and cons o for the prototype, the sensor data can be “simulated”
perform SWOT analysis of your solution (technical and business perspectives)
Questions that need answers
Technical aspect
- Explore various mixes of ICT/IoT/hardware/software technologies that could be used to implement such an end-to-end solution, e.g.,:
- RaspberryPi,Arduino,listofsensors
- CCTVandvideofeeds
- Computervisionandsensorsdatacollectionandprocessing o Interactiveandversatiledashboards
- Cloudanalyticsandmachinelearningonthedata
- Machinelearning,predictiveanalytics
- Propose several high-level technical proposals/architectures – for example, one as “most economical” (cheapest), one as “most feasible and sustainable”, one as “most innovative/disruptive”
- Explore and rank each technical proposed solution measuring them against the some of the main goals from the “brief description” box
- Select one solution which fits the best both from technical point of view as well as from business point of view
Business aspectMarket analysis
Market segments, potential customers, potential end-users
Competitive analysis
Business models, cost models, pricing models
Unique Value Proposition
Develop “marketing messaging”
Develop measurable metrics which can be used to assess the success of the solution
from business value/impact point of view
- Identify the societal stakeholders for the solution o Residents
- Municipalities
- Car-owners
- Parking-managementcompanies/personnel
Identify the needs, opportunities, costs and benefits for each core stakeholder
Develop questionnaires for each stakeholder type to capture all relevant
information that can help both the technical and business aspects of the solution
Develop measurable metrics which can be used to assess the success of the solution
from societal impact point of view
